Who are the gatekeepers?

Gatekeepers are the people who select what the public should and should not see and hear in the media. They are often times the heads of major corporations. Media sources take polls and surveys and decide what the general public likes and dislikes. From there they choose what they think will 'sell' the most in the media. These corporations are about making money and want their news sources to gain the most attention. But because they want to appeal to their audiences, they chose news that they want to hear. Gatekeepers control a big portion of the media and without them, the media would be a free-for-all.
