Who are the gatekeepers of the news? How effective is investigative reporting?

Gatekeepers are the vehicle in which people get news in the first place. They could be authors or broadcasters. Gatekeepers are media people that influence the news en route. They are in a position similar to ‘telephone’. They have the power of information and it is imperative they delve out the true facts. Investigative reporting has been monumental for informing the public. Reporters have uncovered dirt on some serious scandals of American History such as Watergate or ratting out Boss Tweed in the 1860’s. Investigative reporting gets down and dirty and does its best to break the ice of corruption. This has been proven to be extremely effective in initiating change in this country. Even though it is usually an uncomfortable article or segment, investigative reporting gets the job done at informing the public. This is done by the gatekeepers, who decide what the general public should hear. If the gatekeepers do not find a story worthy of informing, for whatever reason, it will not get to the public. So investigative reporting is nothing without the gatekeepers that supply it.
