How has conglomeration changed the movie and television industry?

Before the conglomeration of the movie and television industry, there were many more separate and individual movie studios and producers. Now that companies such as Universal, Paramount and Disney have taken over a large portion of this industry, it is harder for the smaller companies to survive. These bigger companies not only bought out the smaller ones but virtually blocked them out of the market and making it almost impossible for them to make a name for themselves.

Disney is an interesting company that is one of the major movie conglomerates. They started out making animated children and family films. They then went on to buy out other movie franchises, build movie based theme parks and build their empire into one of the most recognizable and well known symbols in the world. By doing so, a company such as Disney made it very hard for other smaller animation and family based studios to compete in the market because they basically ran the industry.

Companies like Disney and Paramount who are conglomerate giants make it hard for smaller companies to compete in the market. However, the strength of these companies means that their movies are usually good and draw in large crowds which keep the movie industry running.
