In what way has deregulation changed the radio and recording industry

Deregulation has changed the way radio and recording industries perform their business in a positive manner. The term deregulation was coined in the 1980’s as “ a trend to reduce government regulation of business.” (Vivian 134) This means that artists and radio show hosts alike are able to perform their business in a way that they so desire. This allows less censorship and more distinction within the world of media. While The FCC or Federal Communication Commission still filters anything too explicit, people are still granted a large amount of freedom. In the past, the government had way too much say in to what content went into both the recording industry and radio. The community did not know what bits of information was propaganda sent in by the government or whether it was the actual facts and opinions of an artist. People have a right to say what is going on in the world and inside their head without having to be filtered through what might be the government’s information. The people listen to recording artists and radio hosts because they are interested in what they have to say, not in what the government has to say. There is a separate place for government opinion and I believe that deregulation is the key for a more successful radio and recording industry.
