Freedom of speech is one of the many liberties the U.S offers. It allows the media to say what they like and it also helps prevent the government from controlling what is said and what isn't. If a government official is involved in a scandal he can't stop the media from letting the world know. The first amendment allows the press to report to the nation whatever they like about the scandal. It also allows the people to speak freely about what they feel is unjust, therefore allowing this country to run smoothly with everyone working together to smooth out the kinks.
